And thus came the opportunity to visit one of our favorite hotel chains – Taj. Taj has a wonderful property located on Willingdon Island, ornate with a spectacular view of Cochin harbour, known as Vivanta by Taj – Malabar. An eclectic mix of heritage, chic & classic, it has wonderful Victorian interiors reflecting the soul of erstwhile Cochin.
Taj Malabar has 5 places to satiate your culinary buds –
The Pepper: All-day dining
This all-day diner offers a variety of cuisines as well as awesome views of the backwaters and lush gardens.
The Rice: Kerala Sea Food Speciality
This seafood specialty restaurant offers a layout and décor inspired by a traditional ‘kettuvalam’ rice boat;
The Thai Pavilion: Thai and Oriental
Guests can sample the succulent flavours of truly ethnic Thai food at the only authentic Thai restaurant in Kerala.
Dolphin’s Point: Multi Cuisine Barbeques and Grills
A charming open-air restaurant by the bay side much loved for its outstanding barbeques and grills. Open from October to March, Dolphin’s Point is delightful for an evening alfresco.
Mattancherry Bar: Bar
This relaxing lobby lounge bar offers plenty of original cocktails and fine spirits from around the world.
We chose The Pepper this time as there was a lunch buffet on menu and for us it is always difficult to resist the variety offered by buffets. Buffets offer us enough choice (actually, this is more important when you are travelling with a toddler who is very unpredictable when it comes to eating). And guess what, it is not that expensive as for a 5 star -our check was just around 2K for two!!
Soups, salads, pasta, dishes, we tried everything and loved everything! After satiating our appetite, we took a look of the property and wished if we had included a stay in Kochi as well. What more we could ask than the hospitality of Taj, a wonderful lunch and a beautiful place to be with each other on our 6th wedding Anniversary. The experience became more of an impromptu date! Here, have a look yourself:
